    'Shift the culture' is a series of audio episodes that introduce concepts of primary prevention of violence against women and girls with disability.

    Overview

    These 6 audio episodes explain key Changing the landscape  concepts, share lived experience insights and suggest ways disability service professionals can embed promising practice in their daily work. ​ 

    The content is a carefully selected mix of audio from the case study and explainer videos, with new insights from host, Katie Brebner-Griffin. 

    Episode 1 Disablity and primary prevention

    Listen to the real experiences of Talie, Renay, Talitha, Laura, Christine, and Annabel, who work in advocacy, primary prevention, and disability services. Host Katie Brebner-Griffin explores the important concepts, actions, and principles that everyone can use to prevent this violence.

    Episode 2 – The what, who, where and when of violence

    In this episode, we unpack the what, who, where, and when of violence against women with disabilities. We hear from Christine, Laura, Renay and Annabel, who share examples of the kinds of violence women with disabilities often face before finding out how to take action against the drivers of violence, wherever we are. 

    Episode 3 – How ableism drives violence

    This episode looks at 2 key reasons violence happens: ableism and gender inequality, and some actions we can take to stop these drivers.  

    Christine, Laura, Talitha, Renay and Annabel share their real experiences of ableism. We look at how to challenge ableism and create environments where women and girls with disabilities are safe, respected, celebrated, and participate fully in all parts of our society. 

    Episode 4 – How gender inequality drives violence

    We define gender inequality and describe what drives it. We hear examples of gender inequality that Christine, Laura, Renay and Annabel have experienced or witnessed, and learning tips to prevent gender inequality in everyday life. 

    Episode 5 – Primary prevention in action

    Six broad and essential actions can help us stop violence against women and girls with disabilities. We introduce the 6 essential actions we can use in our own practices and hear from Christine, Laura, Talitha, Renay and Annabelle how they or others they know are practicing these actions. 

    Episode 6 – Prevention principles for practice

    In the final episode of the series, we share prevention principles you can use to practice the 6 essential actions every day and wherever you are.  

    Host Katie Brebner-Griffin introduces the principles before Christine, Laura, Talitha, Renay, and Annabel share experiences of the principles in practice. There are 2 lists of principles in section 6 of Changing the landscape, an evidence-base developed by Our Watch and Women with Disabilities Victoria.
