About this training

Join us in Launceston for face-to-face prevention training. Three full-day workshops for people with options for any level of experience in the prevention of violence against women.  

On day 1, those new to the framework can learn the foundations, with an introduction to the Change the story framework. Days 2 and 3 provide an opportunity to deepen your confidence to put prevention into action. Those new to the material can attend just the first day or all three days. Those who are already familiar with the material may wish to attend only the second and third days.

Day 1: Monday 17 February 10am-4:30pm

Introduction to Change the story 

This one-day Change the story training has been developed to support people in the prevention sector who are at the beginning of their primary prevention journey. It provides an introductory overview of Change the story: a shared framework for preventing violence against women (second edition), covering: 

  • what is violence against women (the problem) 
  • a primary prevention approach to violence against women (the solution)
  • an overview of the primary prevention landscape in Australia to support learners to identify where they fit and what further information and support, they need (my role). 

Please note there are no prerequisites for this entry-level training.

Day 2: Tuesday 18 February 10am-4:30pm

Change the Story in Action (Part 1: Prevention Principles)

The Change the Story in Action workshop is designed for intermediate prevention of violence against women practitioners. The workshop aims to support people who are actively engaged in prevention work to expand their knowledge and skills, to enable them to design, implement and evaluate activities of increasing complexity.

The first part of this workshop will provide an overview of Prevention Practice Principles including:

  • gender transformative change
  • intersectionality (with links to the Changing the picture and Changing the landscape frameworks)
  • planning for and working with resistance and backlash
  • working with men and masculinities for the prevention of violence against women
  • working in partnership
  • collective practitioner care.

Please note learners wishing to undertake Change the Story in Action Part 1, 'Prevention Principles', will be required to have undertaken 'Introduction to Change the Story' OR have a working knowledge of the Change the story framework.

Day 3: Wednesday 19 February 10am-4:30pm

Change the Story in Action (Part 2: Putting it into Action)

The second part of this workshop will be focused on Putting it into Practice, including:

  • understanding your audience and setting
  • implementing essential actions from Change the story
  • prevention methods and techniques, including communications and messaging
  • planning prevention projects
  • developing a theory of change to measure impact and reach.

Please note learners wishing to undertake Change the Story in Action Part 2, 'Putting it into Action', will be required to have undertaken part one, 'Prevention Principles'.

Cost

Our Watch workshops are delivered free of charge and booked through Humanitix.

We have a minimum 72 hour cancellation period. This training is free, and your place will be made available to another person on the waitlist.
