About this training

Free, face-to-face training for people wanting to know more about how to put prevention into action, using the Our Watch key framework Change the Story: A shared framework for the primary prevention of violence against women in Australia.

These three full-day workshops (30, 31 July and 1 August 2024) are for people at various levels of understanding and practice in the prevention of violence against women. All three are different and can be undertaken individually or in combination, depending on your experience.

Training options 

You have the option to select one, two or all three of the workshops:

10am – 4:30pm Tuesday 30 July

Change the story foundational (full day workshop – 6.5 hours). This workshop is for people who have limited or no prior experience of the national framework for preventing violence against women (entry-level).

The training provides an introductory overview of Change the story: a shared framework for preventing violence against women, covering:

  • what is violence against women (the problem)
  • a primary prevention approach to violence against women (the solution)
  • an overview of the primary prevention landscape in Australia to support learners to identify where they fit and what further information and support, they need (my role).

10am – 4:30pm Wednesday 31 July

Change the story in action part 1: Prevention principles (full day – 6.5hrs). This is for people who have done the foundational training above OR who have been practicing primary prevention for more than 6 months (intermediate prevention workers).

The first part of this workshop covers:

  • gender transformative change
  • intersectionality (with links to the Changing the picture and Changing the landscape frameworks)
  • planning for and working with resistance and backlash
  • working with men and masculinities for the prevention of violence against women
  • working in partnership
  • collective practitioner care.

10am – 4:30pm Thursday 1 August

Change the atory in action part 2: Putting it into action (full day – 6.5hrs) – this follows on from Part 1. Covers prevention principles and enables people to learn how to create a collaborative primary prevention initiative or campaign (intermediate prevention workers). This workshop requires completion of Part 1. Prevention principles. It covers:

  • understanding your audience and setting
  • implementing essential actions from Change the story 
  • prevention methods and techniques, including communications and messaging
  • planning prevention projects
  • developing a theory of change to measure impact and reach.

Cost

Our Watch workshops are delivered free of charge and booked through Humanitix.

We have a minimum 72 hour cancellation period. If needed, you can cancel your booking on Humanitix to enable someone else to attend.
