Our Watch welcomes the announcement by the Commonwealth Government of the establishment of a National Respectful Relationships Education Expert Working Group (NRREEWG).

Our Watch CEO, Patty Kinnersly, has been appointed Chair of the Working Group, which will guide national collaboration to support the delivery of age-appropriate and evidenced-based respectful relationships school education.

“Schools are a key setting for promoting respectful relationships, non-violence and gender equality because they are education institutions, workplaces and community hubs,” said Ms Kinnersly.

“Respectful relationships education, supported by governments through the national school system, can contribute to the generational change needed to see an Australia free from gender-based violence.

“I welcome the opportunity to Chair the group and work with the expert representatives from the Commonwealth and state and territory governments, as well as non-government schooling sectors.

“The establishment of this group provides an important opportunity to support collaboration across jurisdictions, and to build upon and strengthen an evidence based approach to respectful relationships education nationally”.
